Classroom Management: Body Language and Tone

Do's and Don'ts concerning your body language and tone when dealing with an angry student or you are angry at a student.
Body Language - Don't:
1. Put hands on hips
2. Cross your arms
3. Point your finger
4. Glare
5. Stand over the student

Tone - Don't use your voice to:
1. Blame or accuse
2. Show your anger
3. Disappointment

Do:
1. Keep hands by your side.
2. Kneel next to talk
3. Speak in a soft voice
4. Remain calm
5. Work to keep things from getting worse
6. If possible remove the student and you from the situation.

These Do's and Don'ts will help you de-escalate most situations.
